Might this explain why France and Germany were so much against the war ?

I have just read a fascinating article about what might be the "real" reason the US went to war. It was written last January, but I think it's more relevant than ever. According to the author, the fact that Iraq switched its oil currency from dollars to euros in 2000 plays a very important role. And this would also explain why France and Germany were so much against the war: it's not about human rights or anti-Americanism, just plain old greed.

Even if you disagree with the idea that this is why the US was for the war and Europe was against, most of the analysis on the status of the international economy is still very interesting. It's a long article, but I think it's worth it.

So if one were to fall asleep in Macroeconomic principles that could result in easily falling for blatant lies.

I find your argument compelling. The level of details in your rebuttal is amazing. You have convinced me. How could I not see what you explained before you opened my eyes, I do not know.

If you ever run for office and offer an equally detailed platform, I'll vote for you.

Very interesting article.

Not sure I'd trust a number of the sources used. The bottom line is also that you have no proof for the acusations that this is why the Iraq war happened. A very plausible case admittedly, but no solid proof that the US administration was acting because of this.

Doubt it would hold up in a court of law, but certainly asks some good questions and raises some important points.

Paul.

PS. Anthony, you should really elaborate more. IF something is a blantant lie then point it out and argue the case. Just calling it a lie makes you look like a troll.

I agree that this is definitely not a proof. I'm just trying to figure out the reason the American administration went to war, and why France and Germany risked so much diplomatic downfall to oppose it. One main reason from France was to preserve its oil contracts, I guess. Learning these contracts were in euros was quite interesting.
